Most mammals instinctively consume their own placenta, however humans eating their own placenta is a relatively new practice.

Advocates of consuming the placenta during the six-week period after your baby is born say it provides vitamins, minerals that soothes the body after the effect of childbirth,  re-energise you and  encourage the flow of milk.
